ABOUT SEVEN GROUP

Seven Group has a mission to radically improve the quality of education in Cameroon and French-speaking Africa with an orientation towards assisting local industries to grow using science and technology.

Our focus is, but not limited to, Cameroon and French-speaking Africa because this part of the continent is lagging behind in terms of economic development and most importantly digital transformation.

What we’re doing

Seven Group has chosen to solve the problem of poor economic growth in French-speaking Africa through practice-oriented quality education and digital transformation.

Seven Advanced Academy

2018, we started tackling urgent needs by training IT developers to international standards through Seven Advanced Academy in Douala, Cameroon. This professional center is already training over 100 Cameroonians, providing them with in-demand IT skills needed to leverage all opportunities in the job and entrepreneurial markets.

Seven Academy currently offers the following IT training programs:

  • Web App Development,
  • Mobile App Development,
  • Digital Marketing,
  • Project Management
  • IT Security,
  • See more programs

Seven GPS

While we are training these young talents for the local and international markets, we decided this year to launch the second project known as Seven Global Procurement and Sourcing (Seven GPS). Seven GPS is currently serving as an incubation center for Seven Advanced Academy, in Cameroon. It currently has 20 onsite senior engineers working either on contract work for external companies or on innovative startup launches.

Seven GPS also hosts two other entities:

  • Seven Digital Marketing Agency (Seven DMA) which handles digital marketing and corporate communication needs for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as big companies.
  • Seven Architectural Design (Seven AD) which offers solutions and specialized training in computerized architectural design.

After graduating from the academy, students have the opportunity to move to Seven GPS for 2 years of professional experience, where they get to work on real industry projects both for local and international companies. Former students of the academy are also strongly encouraged to use Seven GPS if they wish to create their company.

Business Model

The academy has two categories of students:

  • Regular students who pay their normal $2000 tuition to take the two-year training ;
  • Scholarship students who get admission through fully funded scholarships. They payback after graduating by working two years at Seven GPS.

Seven International University

To solve the problem of shallow education beyond Cameroon, Seven Group is already working on the next big project for Seven Group: the creation of a state-of-the-art higher institute of learning in Cameroon that will be known as Seven International University (SIU).

Its mission will be to change the story of digital technology in French-speaking Africa. We want to make the university a reference in terms of IT engineering training, entrepreneurship, and other engineering fields.

How you can help

All entities under Seven Group are nonprofits because our unique goal is helping all of French-speaking Africa by providing quality education.

You can help us achieve this dream in the following ways:

Context

Cameroon is a country in Central Africa, part of the CEMAC (Communauté économique et monétaire de l'Afrique centrale / Central African Economic and Monetary Community). It has a very young and dynamic population. The youths are energetic and talented, and political frustration has fast changed their mentality of relying on the government to engage in self-reliance activities.

Many now strive to be entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs and activities such as digital business, music and movies, fashion, communication, engineering, multimedia, consultancy, agribusiness, community development have gained much traction over the past few years.

There are around 900 Industries in Cameroon employing in 8,800 job roles (GICAM 2013). The National Institute of Statistics listed in its 2014 Business Directory 18,597 companies existing in Cameroon. The total number of companies was 28,872 in 2016.

As everybody wants to go digital - from individuals, sole proprietors, to companies, organizations, and government agencies - the major questions are:

  1. Who are the available experts to assist these actors to go digital?
  2. What are the state-of-the-art higher institutions of learning capable of producing these needed experts?

At the continental level French-speaking sub-saharan countries account for only 19 percent of Sub-Saharan Africa’s average GDP whilst English-speaking countries boast of 47 percent (excluding South Africa). French-speaking countries are sparsely populated and characterised largely by small economies. With the exception of the Democratic Republic of Congo, big countries in Africa are English- and Portuguese-speaking.

With regard to human development, seven (7) of the ten worst-ranked (out of 187) by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are French-speaking African states, and three of them- Burundi, Niger, and DRC – occupy the last three positions.
